Mitsuko Noguchi’s SISTERSISTER is a digital spoken word poem that employs fabulation to grapple with the misleading promises and purported self-authorship of today’s online sex work climate. The video’s tight framing reveals only the artist’s bright red lips as they impishly whisper an enticing scheme to “make up names,” “get rich,” and “be slick, not shy.” A story emerges in which two heroines get swept up in a magical world that, in the end, proves to be a poisonous illusion. Retrospect brings clarity to memories of a past coloured by exploitation and patriarchy. – Description by Dallas Fellini
