Record of Mothersea

2026

Record of mothersea is a live intermedia installation merging biohaptic technology, experimental writing, shadow theatre, and butoh dance. Record of mothersea is a duet between my mother’s body and mine.

Through ECG sensors, I translate the physiological pulses of my mother’s heart into sonic output, which in turn guides my movement. Each live recorded heartbeat triggers the revelation of a single word from a pre-coded text. I simultaneously dance to and with her heartbeat, creating a closed “inside-in” feedback loop between biodata and body.

The performance is built using Dr. Mark-David Hosale’s The SOURCE Biophysical Sensing and Analysis System coded through Max (Max/MSP/Jitter) with the support of nD::StudioLab at York University.
